Meerkat Facts is a free listening site for children, parents, teachers and families. Duplessis Innovations in Cape Town runs it. Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Duplessis Innovations is the responsible party.
This notice is written for families. It is not legal advice.
We do not collect personal information from children
There is no sign-in and no account. We do not ask children for a name, email address, phone number, photo, school, or precise location. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. That follows the same idea as the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA): a site made for children should not collect personal data from them.
What stays on this device
The age group you pick (4–6, 7–9 or 10–13) is saved in this browser's local storage so the next visit can open on the same group. It is not a cookie, and it is not sent to us.
Maths answers stay on the page while you are answering. We do not save a score, and we do not send the answers anywhere.
Anonymous play count
On the public production site only, pressing play can add an anonymous count: which episode it was, and whether listening started or reached about the end. There is no name and no device identifier in that count. Preview links, a computer running the site locally, and tests do not send it.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics. It is cookieless. It counts page views for the site as a whole. It is not used to build a profile of a child, and it is not an advertising tracker.
Cookies and ads
We do not set our own cookies. The age-group choice uses local storage, not a cookie. Vercel Web Analytics is cookieless. We do not use advertising cookies for personalisation.
Advertising is off, and the advertising script is not loaded. If ads are turned on, they will be contextual and non-personalised. Each request will be tagged for child-directed treatment before it is sent, and ads will not use cookies for personalisation.

Because we do not collect personal information from children, there is usually nothing personal to show, correct or delete. You can still ask, and we will reply.
